PRODUCTION OVER.....

I don't quite know how to feel about today to be honest, as it was DEADLINE DAY and we have completed our music video. I will defiantly miss the creative side of the production because I enjoy learning and teaching myself the new skills but I won't be missing the stress that comes with it.

Thought I'd do a vlog to sum up my feelings - it's in a car because I needed to vent my feelings there and then to capture how I truly felt at the time after having a reflective conversation.

Band Names

A few weeks back, we sat down and found the title of our songs as well as deciding to use it as our album name too! We chose 'Within An Ace of Reality'. BUT we forgot one really important idea - A BAND NAME.

So, on our deadlined day, we have had to have a brainstorm of our idea's..

We really liked the idea of using another language as well as incorporating something from our video. 'DEPUIS' is featured on one of the lip singers jumper and it means 'since then' in french which we find awesome!

Evaluation So Far

As our creative process comes to it's end, I began to think how well this coursework has gone. I thought I would draw up an evaluation so far of what went well and the problems we have faced this year, to give me prospective and to help me realise what an good music video we have made. It is always hard to look at your own work without seeing little negatives and nobody is 100% confident in their work but I thought I would try and balance these feelings out.

As you can see from the image (^), I think we have had a good go at our coursework and I think the reason we have worked so well is reflected in our points. If we didn't have the negatives, we wouldn't have been tested which is what we needed in order to get creative.

Half Term Editing

It's half term week but we are still in school, trying to get all the editing done before our internal deadline.

A few dilemma's we have faced today;
-  we can't find some of our footage for the leaving of the characters so we have to alter our plans a bit.
- have to decide if we are having an extra long lip sync at the chorus towards the end;

Just tryin' to work out
                                                             How to be like myself
I'm just tryin' to work out
These cards I've been dealt

I'm just tryin' to work out
How to be like myself
I'm just tryin' to work out
These cards I've been dealt

So we brainstormed...

The green signifies what we wanted to originally do, and the blue is what we might have to do if we don't have enough song left.

LATER ON: The above planning wasn't necessary as we have hopefully figured a way that we won't need to revert to this! However we do have a few more shots to add in so it may be used!

Edit Update

This week, there hasn't been that much progress with editing as a pair as we have both been ill. Today I've been trying to work the fast pace editing with the fight/tension filled scene at the table which is proving difficult trying to balance all the stories. We have a short time in order to portray the scene and I'm wondering whether we we have to take out lip syncing on the repeat chorus to fit everything we need in.

More Filming & A New Idea to Add

Today, we decided to do some more filming. We do have enough for us to use for our video BUT I had a brainwave. I really want us to use some overlapping of shots and we've decided to connect the lip synced and the backgrounds by having the singer walk through the background overlapping the individual at the table. This will hopefully link the individual to their background also!

Fire by Gavin DeGraw

Whilst watching one of my favourite TV series 'One Tree Hill', I realised the artist that sings the opening theme song, Gavin DeGraw would fit in our genre of Pop/Rock. So I decided to look up his recent songs and found two videos that I thought were great for inspiration but also for my written exam!!

FIRE (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

I found this video useful for our written exam because of the composition of the women and how they are sexualised in this. As part of our exam we will be asked about how the media can portray women and the images below are only a few screen shots of how this is shown.

LYRIC VIDEO

Whilst we are not making a lyric video, I thought I would look into it and there is something that strikes me about this one. I really like the transitions of the shots and the way the lyrics are clearly shown and stand out in white in contrast to the black background.

It does relate to our own video as it also features still shots and clips of people playing sports, being successful and it fits nicely in with the lyrics 'we are the champions'.

Trip to the British Film Insitute

My class was very fortunate to have two trips to the BFI. Unfortunately I couldn't make the first one in December when we had a talk about our videos but I did manage to go to the talk about our written exam. It was a great and informative day where we got some really good advice about what to write and how to structure our essays!

Above is a screen shot of the schools twitter account and my class outside the BFI before going in.

Effects

We have competed 1:17 of our video, which is a 2:44 song so we are making good progress with our editing. Below are some of the things we are doing to edit our music video to the way we want it.

To make our video the best we think it could be, we have lowered the saturation of the chorus so that it has black and white effect and a good contrast. We find this effective as it gives a good edge to the video and separates the individuals.

Also with the lip syncing, we have to lower the audio so that we don't hear my bad singing or other background sounds!
