Halfway Point Audience Feedback

At the beginning of our production, we decided to get a feel for what people are interested in - genre and all other aspects. We also showed a little clip of our video to see what people thought so far and how we could make it better, further on the process.

QUESTIONS WE ASKED:
1) Favourite Genre of Music?
2) Do you prefer female or male artists?
3) What do you know about the pop rock genre?
4) Do you prefer narrative/performance/a mixture in a video?
5) Do you prefer music video's that fit the music or abstract?

*show the clip*

6) What do you like/dislike about the clip of our video?

7) Do you find the black and white effective?
8)  Our video is about how you shouldn't judge people from what they are dealt with in life. Do you know of any similar?
9) Is it a right message to send?
10) Where do you buy/download your music from? why?

Our feedback gave us great help in moving forward with our production and we found it useful in order to make our video more appealing to our target audience. That is the great thing about getting feedback. We can see the things that people like and what they think of our video. This helps us to have an idea of where we are going right and if we are slipping in any of our aims!

Progress in Editing

In this morning's lesson, Karen & I have made really good progress with our editing. We've changed a few things from Friday's edit time and added more content onto our project. ALSO we have reduced the saturation of the picture when the lip syncing happens giving it a really nice effect as well as a good contrast between the stories of the individuals and the singer.

Framing and Composition

- Arrange your shot to complement the focal point.
- Your main focus needs attention
- The space around the focal point becomes equal - more formal.
- You have to consider how you will draw your audience into the shot.

Rule of Thirds

Objects of interest are shown where the lines intersect. Below are a few examples from our music video.

Eye Line Rule

Eyes should be kept roughly 1/3 of the way down from the top of the frame.

Leading Space

There should be more space in the direction that the individual is looking than behind them. This makes a more dramatic shot.

Lines

Lines play an important role in composition. Diagonal lines are more dynamic and create a sense of movement.

Final Filming

In my last post we planned to film on Friday 23rd January but we had an open slot today to film which was awesome because it meant we could get work done quicker and I also liked the weather we shot in even if I did freeze!!

So now its time to upload and start editing...

Below are a few shots of today.

More Filming Plans & Editing

We are finally back in lesson after our mocks and getting straight back down to business. We have looked at some of our footage and I'm not happy with the lip-syncing parts that we filmed before the Christmas period. I'm probably being really critical but I'm starting to see flaws, which I think, would look better out of our video.

With that in mind, we still have to film about 10 minutes worth of video which is last individual to do so we have planned that a week today, weather permitting for the outside shots, we will be filming and hopefully that will be the end of our filming! YES!

A Post & A Catch Up

I will be the first to admit - I have been awful with writing posts during the Christmas break and just before but that of course doesn't mean that I haven't been putting some thought and work into the music video and all the work!

Below is a little video that I thought I’d do to save the time of writing everything up.

I promise there will be more consistent posts now everything is getting back into the swing of things and mocks are nearly all over - yay!

Intertextuality

Intertextuality is an important aspect to consider when coming up with your video storyline. Although we did not include it in our video, I still think it's important to blog about.

Julia Kristeva who states that "any text is the absorption and transformation of another.

Example - Taylor Swift - Love Story

In this video, Taylor Swift refers to a fairytale and the literature Romeo and Juliet. This video refers to the stereotypical story of the girl admiring the boy and the girl getting her prince charming at the end. This is represented by Swift being dressed in a bridal/long white dress with the stylish hairstyle and the boy being dressed in old fashioned smart clothing who imitates the prince of her life. This video features a castle which also is a reference to the fairytale.
